EpicMix Launch

Soon we should hear some more official word on it, but EpicMix is out and those with Vail season tickets (along with Breckenridge, Keystone, Heavenly, and Beaver Creek) can download the app on their iPhone and Android handsets. Blackberry, Win Phone, and pretty much any other phone can also use it at the EpicMix mobile website.

It almost goes without saying that season pass holders will have an epic season on the mountain slopes when they can easily track their progress, get updates, and message their friends. Even unlock achievements by skiing different lines in particular conditions, riding your favorite lift a certain number of times, or even one day for being the oldest rider on the mountain! There are over 300 pins to unlock, 25 levels, and a leaderboard to show you who’s got the most.

Here’s how it works: when you get your season pass / lift ticket, there’s a little circuit in there called an RFID, short for radio-frequency identification. This is the same thing they have in the malls to stop shoplifters. But instead of tracking inventory, we’re using it to track people skiing around the mountain, specifically getting on and off lifts. Each RFID tag is unique, so behind the scenes we can figure out where each individual person is skiing and snowboarding. As you ride, it records, rates, and calculates.

You’re free to download EpicMix from iTunes, but only season pass holders can log in and take advantage of all these features. More than enough motivation for the most hard core skiers out there. In fact if you’re reading this, there’s a decent chance you’ve already downloaded it. If you like it, don’t forget to rate + review it.
